Quiana and Julio’s Kukua Beach Club wedding had elegance, energy and the kind of warmth that cannot be arranged as part of the decor. Around 75 people travelled to Punta Cana to celebrate with them, and you could feel how much this couple was loved long before the party began.
The day brought a little rain, a beach ceremony, a packed dance floor and one of the most personal wedding films we have ever made. A few days later we met Quiana and Julio again at Macao Beach for an additional photo shoot. That afternoon gave us the final images in the ocean, and an idea that became the emotional heart of their highlights film.

A Little Rain Before the Ceremony
Shortly before the ceremony, the sky changed and the rain arrived. This is Punta Cana, and sometimes the weather likes to make an entrance of its own.
It passed quickly. The clouds opened, the light came back, and the ceremony went ahead beside the Caribbean Sea. In the Dominican Republic, rain on a wedding day is traditionally considered a blessing, and nobody in this group treated it as anything else.
There was no need to turn the moment into something it was not. Quiana and Julio were surrounded by their people, the florals looked beautiful against the ocean, and everyone was ready to see them get married. Once the ceremony began, the rain felt like a small part of the story rather than a problem.
Kukua works especially well on a day like this, because everything is close without feeling crowded. The beach, the covered reception space, the pool and the surrounding palms give a wedding several distinct settings inside one private venue. Couples who want the practical detail can read our Kukua Punta Cana wedding guide.
A Beach Ceremony Surrounded by Their People
Quiana and Julio married on the sand with the ocean behind them. Tall arrangements of white flowers, greenery and soft blue details framed the ceremony, and their guests gathered close, which kept it personal even with a substantial group.
Our approach during a ceremony is simple. We pay attention, stay out of the way, and make sure the couple can stay present with each other.
The kiss matters, of course, but so do the reactions around it. A hand reaching for another hand. A parent watching quietly. The laughter that comes right after a serious moment. Those photographs usually carry the most meaning years later.
Coastal Decor with a Personal Feel
Mayte and her team designed the celebration with white florals, blue accents, natural textures and touches of pampas grass. The reception felt polished and still belonged beside the sea. Candlelight and strands of warm bulbs softened the space after sunset, while the design stayed clean and elegant.
Quiana’s Louis Vuitton shoes added a fashion detail that felt completely her. We always photograph pieces like this, but we never want a wedding gallery to turn into a catalogue of objects. Details matter because the couple chose them, and because they bring back the atmosphere of the day.
The Kind of Reception People Actually Enjoy
This was not a reception where everyone stayed politely in their seats. Quiana and Julio’s guests came ready to celebrate.
There were emotional moments, phones held up to record the action, plenty of laughter and a dance floor that stayed alive all evening. Julio and his friends gave us some of the funniest photographs of the night, and the couple brought all the energy to their own dances.
Working as a photo and video team meant we could catch the spontaneous moments while also recording the movement, the voices and the sound that made the party theirs. That is why the two formats work so well together. Photographs let you stop inside a fraction of a second. The film brings back the rhythm of the room and the way people moved around one another.
An Additional Photo Shoot at Macao Beach
A few days after the wedding, we met Quiana and Julio at Macao Beach for an additional photo shoot.
Quiana wore a different white dress, which gave the session its own identity instead of making it a recreation of the wedding day.
There was more freedom too. No timeline was waiting for us, no guests needed the couple, and there was no reception about to begin. We could explore the palms, the rocks, the open beach and the stronger natural character of Macao. At the end of the session, Quiana and Julio went into the ocean for their Trash the Dress photographs.
An additional shoot is not necessary for every couple, but it is a good choice when the wedding timeline is full, or when you want photographs somewhere that feels completely different. Our Punta Cana Trash the Dress guide explains what the experience is like and how to prepare for it.
The Voices That Changed Their Wedding Film
Before this wedding, we had been thinking about a more personal way to use a couple’s own voices in a highlights film. Not an interview, and not a voiceover explaining what happened. We wanted words that felt intimate and timeless.
So we wrote a separate reading for each of them and brought the texts to the additional photo shoot. When the photography was finished, the four of us sat in our car, switched off the engine and made everything as quiet as we could. Quiana and Julio read the words into our recorder, one at a time.
Their voices gave the film something no music track could have created on its own. Quiana reads, “I love you with thunder.” Julio describes loving her “with the full weight of forever.”
Because the words are spoken by them, the film feels less like a record of their wedding and more like something that belongs only to the two of them. It was an experiment, and it turned out better than we imagined. We still remember this one not only for how it looks, but for how personal it became.

Why Kukua Was Right for This Celebration
Quiana and Julio’s wedding shows what Kukua does particularly well. It holds a substantial guest list while keeping everyone connected. The ceremony, the dinner and the party each have their own atmosphere, and guests never feel as though they are being moved around a large resort.
It also gives photography and video a lot of variety. There is open beach, tropical greenery, clean architectural space, a pool, soft daytime light and a reception area that changes beautifully once the warm lights come on.
Most importantly, the venue supports a real party. It looks elegant without asking people to behave formally all evening.
